The beginnings of Milka
The confectioner founded on November 17, 1825 Philippe Suchard one Confectionery in Neuchâtel. He advertised a new type of handmade product Dessert, the “ [le] chocolat fin de sa fabrique ” (French for “fine chocolate from our own production”), but the recipe for this has not been passed down. In 1826 he purchased a property in the neighboring village Serrières a former water mill and set up a mechanical production of chocolate bars there (approx. 25-30 kg per day).
Chocolate (except Drinking chocolate) was originally made without milk made so that it had a tart taste and a dark brown color. In 1901 the brand name “Milka” was registered; the acronym was created by contracting the words “milk” and “cocoa”. Since then, Milka chocolate has been in... Lörrach manufactured and in one purple-colored Envelope offered, provided with a cow, the Milka cow, including an Alpine panorama. In 1972 the Milka cow also received a purple coloring.
After the takeover of “Jacobs Suchard”. Kraft Foods In 1990, the name Suchard was gradually dropped from the packaging design and the recipes were changed.
